Title:Harris and Me: a Summer Remembered
Pages:157
Year Published:1993
Harris and me is a book about a boy named Harris, his mother named Clair, his father named Kunte, his sister named Glennis, a hired worker named Louie, and the main character who's name is never mentioned. Harris is a boy around age 9 that wears bib overalls only and is a major daredevil. The main character wears a t shirt and jeans and his most prized possessions are some "Dourty Peectures" (dirty pictures) he got from some strange man.Glennis is Harris' sister. She, along with her mother, both are usually in the kitchen and are both great models of discipline. Kunte is Harris' father, who never really talks and is usually sitting down, reading the newspaper and sipping coffee. Louie is a hired worker for Harris' family. He doesn't really get paid, but they give him a place to live . For some reason, he has Harris hunt mice for him for about 2 cents per mouse. The reason he does this will be explained later in the book, but you have to read it to find out.
The setting of this story is in the summertime on Harris' parents' farm, but the year is never mentioned.
The main problem of this book is that Harris is a daredevil and wants to take everything to the next level. whether it is attacking pigs while playing war, or jumping off of the barn onto one of the horses named Bob, Harris will do it. The main character is more cautious and less of a daredevil. He also develops a love interest. Will he get the girl? Or will Harris' behavior ruin it all? Find out by reading the book!
I would recommend this book to ages 10 and up because there is mild swearing and violence ( PG-13). People who like books about farms and adventure books would like this book too.
